HEIRLOOM Vintage Alligator Douplet Clutch CB-037

Vintage c.1940s-1950s

This museum quality, one-off alligator clutch was handcrafted per order. Considering its dramatic details and superb craftsmanship, it appears to be of French origin. Exceptionally rare in this unique style: a Douplet Clutch. Essentially, it incorporates two separate spaces in one - with two flaps, tab closures (with snaps), and two interiors. Each can be opened and used independently. The color is deep, gemstone ruby-red with natural color variations characteristic to older wild skins. Amazing quality throughout, with no metal parts. Lined with smooth leather and neatly organized interior (multiple slip pockets). Vintage rarity at its best - you won't find another one soon!

SIZE: apprx. 13"W x 8"H x 3"D

CONDITION: Excellent pre-owned condition with only very minor signs of time: supple skins, clean interior. Hard to believe it's over 60 years old! The colors in person could look slightly different due to flash.
  • Final sale, no international shipping. HISTORY: The Douplet style was produced only for a short period of time until early 1950s, usually as frame satchels with top handles. We have never seen a clutch-douplete before: this is the only one we've found for almost 15 years of collecting. After WWII, upscale department stores (Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus) provided specialized, made-per-order services for their elegant clientele, and most likely this gem was one of those astronomically expensive creations. If you're looking for an important collectible, don't miss out!
